The Affiliates continue to play vital roles in the life of the Los Angeles Philharmonic through their variety of events and programs.
Committee Musicales, Salons, and Benefit Balls: fundraising events organized by each individual Committee. The wide selection and diversity of events take Affiliates all throughout Southern California. Venues have included Affiliate homes, Consular Corps members’ residences, historical buildings, grand ballrooms, local museums, etc. Through their various programs, the Affiliates have had the privilege of hearing LA Phil musicians and other local artists perform in very intimate settings.
Crescendo: an adult enrichment series that launched in 1992. The series features diverse performers and distinguished speakers from across Southern California. Musical programs have included dance and music programs from cultures around the globe: Indian Kathak Dance, Spanish Flamenco, and Korean drumming. In addition, the Affiliates have had the privilege of hearing from guest speakers such as KUSC host Rich Capparela, and LA Phil musicians Elizabeth Baker, John Hayhurst, Guido Lamell, Daniel Rothmuller, and Meredith Snow.
Rehearsals: A major perk of being an Affiliate is the opportunity to attend exclusive rehearsals just for volunteers and their guests. Each year, the Invitational Rehearsal gathers Affiliates from all different committees for a morning of music at Walt Disney Concert Hall, followed by a gourmet luncheon in the ballroom of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. In addition, Affiliates who donate towards the LA Phil’s Endowment Fund are invited to an exclusive Endowment Rehearsal followed by a question and answer session with one of the performing artists.
Workshops: learn from Affiliate leaders, LA Phil staff, and other experts in these yearly gatherings to nurture and exchange ideas. The Affiliates hold workshops on Leadership, Membership, and Fundraising.
